Raivo Tafenau

Biography
Raivo Tafenau has already for many years been one of the most in-demand musicians in Estonia. He is known for bringing together many international ensembles. He is a very strong bandleader and a popular sideman in dozens of different bands. Raivo is also one of the founders of Estonian Dream Big-band in 1996. Last year this band performed in Jazz festivals in Beijing and Shanghai along with Dee Dee Bridgewater.
With his many ensembles, Raivo Tafenau has performed in the Faroe Islands, Norway, Ottawa Jazz festival in Canada, many times at Pori Jazz, Imatra Jazz festival in the United States, Russia, and in many European countries. In the last two years, he has been one of the members of the ensemble Jazzbaltika, performing also in Estonia.
Raivo Tafenau has recorded very successful albums with musicians from Brazil, Chile, Finland, Poland and Lithuania. He has been awarded the Musician of the Year title by Estonian Radio in 1994, in 2010 he won the most prestigious prize in Estonian Jazz - Elion Jazz Award. Raivo Tafenau Quintet is formed by young Estonian musicians who all have received their jazz education abroad. Each of the band members have released more than one solo album. The ensemble performs original music with elements of groove and hints of Estonian folk music.
