Biography

Candida Thompson studied with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she received her soloist's graduation diploma with honour. She developed her qualities further at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada and played with several international orchestras such as Moskow Chamber Orchestra, The English String Orchestra, Wiener Symphoniker, the Netherland Radio Chamber Orchestra and Amsterdam Sinfonietta. In addition, she participated in various international competitions and received several prizes. Candida Thompson is also regularly invited to lead chamber orchestras in Scandinavia, Spain, England, Scotland, Germany and Holland.

Candida Thompson is intensively engaged in chamber music. Candida Thompson has been a regular guest artist at La Musica chamber music festival in Florida for the past eight years. She also participated at the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, the Boston Chamber Music Festival and the Gubbio Festival. She has also been involved with the Canossa masterclasses in Reggio Emilia in Italy. In the past years Candida has collaborating with artists such as Bruno Guiranna, Joseph Silverstein, Julian Rachlin, Frans Helmerson, Isabelle Faust, Xenia Jankovic and Janine Jansen.

Candida Thompson was appointed Amsterdam Sinfonietta's artistic director and lead violin in the summer of 2003. Under her leadership, the ensemble concentrated even more on a glistening presentation of finely balanced programmes. Candida Thompson’s musical approach and leadership guarantees energetic performances with great commitment of the musicians and a special relationship with the audience.
