Biography

Born in Tbilisi (Georgia), Mzia Bakhtouridze graduated in piano at the Moscow Conservatory under the guidance of Vaša Cačava and Nana Khubutia and immediately began an intense concert career. Ms Bakhtouridze also became a professor for chamber music at the Conservatory and collaborated with the Bolshoi Theatre with various conductors such as Evgenij Svetlanov, Gennadij Roždestvenskij, Yuri Temirkanov, Aleksandr Vedernikov and opera singers such as Elena Obraztsova and Paata Burchulaadze.

In 1990, Mzia Bakhtouridze moved to Italy to further hone her craft at the Teatro alla Scala. Later she became a musical coach at La Scala collaborating with numerous conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Myung-Whun Chung, Georges Prêtre, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Valery Gergiev, Mstislay Rostropovic, Daniel Harding, Gustavo Dudamel, Daniel Barenboim, Nicola Luisotti, Fabio Luisi, and Gianandrea Noseda. During her teaching Mzia also specialized in lieder repertoire with Helmut Deutsch and David Shaw.

Besides her activity at the Teatro alla Scala, Mzia Bkhtouridze constantly works as a concert accompanist, which has brought her to perform at the most prestigious international music halls both in Europe and in America alongside singers such as Ramón Vargas, Roberto Scandiuzzi, Roberto Frontali Renato Bruson, Ildar Abdrazakov, Olga Borodina, Barbara Frittoli, Vitaly Kowaliov, Fabio Sartori, Elina Garanca and Piotr Beczala.
