Vladimir Volkov was born in 1960. He is a graduate from the St.Petersburg State Concervatory.

He has collaborated with many famous musicians, such as Vyachelav Gayvoronsky, Sergey Kuryokhin, Igor Butman, Arkady Shilkliper, Andey Kondakov, Ned Rothenberg, Vladimir Tarasov and others.

He has been a member of bands "Vershki da Koreshki", "Moscow Composers Orchestra", "Interjazz Band".

He participated in Festivals such as Soviet Avant-Guard Jazz Festival Zurich (1989), Goodwill Games Art Festival Seattle (1990), Monster Festival, Europa jazz fest (1990, 1995), Jazz Jamboree Warsaw, Imaginare Folklore Fest Berlin, To And Geden Ton Vien, Jazz Fest Salzburg (1991), Festival Internazionale Bolzano (1992, 1995), Focus Berlin, Discover Jazz Barlington Vermont (1993), Music Triennale Koeln (1994), Jazz Baltica Salzau, Tampere Jazz Happening (1996), Musica Sarca Maastricht (1997), Jazz Fest Hamburg (1998), Saalfelden Avstr, Montreux Shveden (1999), Moers Germany (2001).
