Biography

Winner of the 2007 George Enescu Competition in Bucharest Anna Tifu is considered one of the leading violinist of her generation.


Born in Cagliari, she started to play the violin at the age of six under the guidance of her father and to perform in public at eight years old when she won 1st prize with distinction at the Vittorio Veneto concert series.
At the age of 11 she made her debut as soloist with the Orchestra National de Pays de La Loire. At 12 she made her debut at La Scala Milan performing the Bruch Violin Concerto No.1.


At 14 she won first prize in the Viotti Valsesia International Competition and first prize in the International Competition M. Abbado Competition in Stresa, along with many other awards and prizes. She received her Music Diploma from the Cagliari Academy of Music at the age of 15.
She studied from the age of eight years old for ten years with Salvatore Accardo at the Academy Walter Stauffer in Cremona and at the Academy Chigiana of Siena where in 2004 she obtains the Certificate of Honor.


In 2001, 2004 and 2005 she was awarded a scholarship from the Mozart-Gesellschaft Dortmund.

From 2005 to 2008 she studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia with Aaron Rosand, Shmuel Ashkenazy and Pamela Frank and most recently she was awarded a scholarship by the International Music Academy in Cagliari to study in Paris and was awarded the Diplome Superier de Concertiste.

As a soloist she has collaborated with major orchestras, including Orchestra RAI of Torino, Orchestra dei Pomeriggi Musicali, Orchestra del Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Orchestra dell’Arena di Verona, Orchestra del Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Orchestra del Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza, Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento, Orchestra Verdi di Trieste, George Enescu Filarmonic Orchestra and Radio Orchestra of Bucharest, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Munich chamber Orchestra, KZN Filarmonic di Durban, Orchestra Filarmonica del Qatar, LSO di Maastricht, Israel Philarmonic Soloists Chamber Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Prague Chamber Orchestra and she has collaborated with conductors including Gustavo Dudamel, Diego Matheuz, Juraj Valcuha, Julian Kovatchev, Sergiu Commissiona, Cristoph Poppen, Hubert Soudant, Giampaolo Bisanti, Gèrard Korsten, Cristian Mandeal, Aldo Ceccato, Gabor Ötvös, Justus Frantz, Lü Jia, David Afkham, Ronald Zollman, Roberto Benzi.

Highlits of the last season include performances at the George Enescu international Festival of Bucharest with Orchestra Rai of Torino and Juraj Valcuha, in Torino for the Prix Italia as well with Valchua and Orchestra Rai, concert in Verona, Teatro Filarmonico, in Cagliari Teatro Lirico, at the Khachaturian International Festival of Yerevan, concert in Tbilisi with the Orchestra Teatro Opera of Tbilisi and Gianluca Marciano’, debut with Gustavo Dudamel and Simòn Bòlivar Orchestra of Venezuela, performance in Genova, Teatro Carlo Felice and Season Opening concert in Venice, Teatro La Fenice with Diego Matheuz.


She will make her debut with the Orchestra Nazionale of Santa Cecilia for the 2015-2016 season under the baton of Yuri Temirkanov.

She has collaborated with musicians such as Maxim Vengerov, Alexander Romanovsky, Boris Andrianov, Giuseppe Andaloro, Gloria Campaner, Pekka Kuusisto, the actor John Malkovich and Andrea Bocelli, who invited Anna as guest soloist for various concerts in Italy and abroad.
She performed in famous festivals such as Tuscan Sun Festiva, Festival de Musique Menton, Ravello Festival, Al Bustan in Beirut and the George Enescu Festival where she is regularly invited as well at some of the bestknown institutions and concert halls including la Scala di Milano, Auditorium Parco della Musica di Roma, Teatro Massimo e Politeama di Palermo, Palazzo del Qurinale di Roma, Auditorium della Rai di Torino, Teatro Arcimboldi di Milano, Tel Aviv museum of Art, Konzerthaus di Dortmund, Konzerthaus di Berlino, Salle Cortot di Parigi, Fazioli Concert Hall, Schloss Elmau,Rudolphinum Dvorak Hall di Praga, Ateneo e sala Palatului di Bucharest, Madison Square Garden di New York, Staples Center di Los Angeles, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza.

Anna Tifu has been testimonial for the Italian airline company Alitalia, along with Riccardo Muti, the director Gabriele Tornatore and the dancer Eleonora Abbagnato.


Anna plays the 1716 Antonio Stradivari”Marèchal Berthier”ex Napoleon on loan from the Associazione Canale of Milan.
