Biography

Victor Kuleshov was born in Leningrad, as his home town was called then. He started taking violin lessons at the age of 6. In 1979 he graduated from the Music College of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. His teacher and advisor was the noted Professor Anatoly Reznikovsky.

In 1989 Victor completed his advanced studies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory under Professor Michael Beliakov. From 1988 he started touring as part of a duet (violin and viola) with Alexander Berlin. In 1990 Victor was chosen as Concertmaster of the State Symphony Orchestra of St.Petersburg, a position he held for five years. In 1995 Victor created a string trio that he decided to call "The Modern Trio", after a classical music radio station with which he collaborated for several years.

As a virtuoso violinist, Victor Kuleshov has toured extensively in Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Turkey, Croatia, Germany, Finland, France, Mexico and Canada. He is a frequent guest soloist with such orchestras as St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg Camerata, Moscow Chamber Orchestra (Russia), Musici di Parma (Italy), Richmond Symphony Orchestra (Canada), Sinfonia Toronto (Canada) and many others. Victor Kuleshov collaborated with such renowned conductor as Reinhard Seehafer, Andrej Anihanov, Nurhan Arman, Pavel Bubelnikov, Vladislav Bulahov, Crtomir Siskovic, Svjatoslav Luther.

Victor Kuleshov collaborated with leading concert performers of the world, such as Mischa Maisky (cello), Crtomir Siscovic, Ilia Ioff (violin), Aleksey Orlovetsky, Eugene Sinaiski, Natalia Arzumanova, Eugene Skovorodnikov, Michel Wagemans (piano), Claudi Arimany (flute). He frequently performed with one of the greatest composers of the modern times Alfred Schnittke, with whom he had a long lasting friendship.

Victor Kuleshov played in famous concert halls such as Great and Small Halls of St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Small Hall of Moscow Conservatoire (Russia), Tbilisi Philharmonic Hall (Georgia), Baku Philharmonic Hall (Azerbaijani), Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall, Milli Reasurans Auditorium (Istanbul, Turkey), Glenn Gould Studio (Toronto, Canada)

He also performs often for the appreciative audiences of St. Petersburg, his home city, where so many of his projects have served a great purpose of giving a new life to the city's musical culture.

In 2000 Victor founded the Chamber Music Society of St.Petersburg, an institution that was originally formed in 1872 by E. Albreht, N. Rimsky-Korsakov, L. Auer and M. Beliaev.

His usual repertoire includes both the core of the classical canon and a great variety of modern works.

Also Victor Kuleshov is the founder and current Managing Director of OKM Publishers, a leading publisher of classical musical scores dedicated to manuscript fidelity and a modern, accessible visual style, and Artistic Director of the “Zar’s Village International Music Festival”.
