Biography

Born in Novosibirsk, he won the renowned Wieniawski Competition and gave his first recitals in Moscow and Leningrad aged 11 At 14, he played in Tokyo, Munich, Berlin and Helsinki, and gave his debut at Carnegie Hall a mere year later. Since then, he continues to perform regularly at the world’s major concert venues and international festivals. At 17, he won the Queen Elisabeth International Competition in Brussels, becoming the youngest winner in its history, and twenty years later returned as a
member of its jury.

His list of stage partners includes illustrious conductors such as Ashkenazy, Boulez, Chailly, Chung, Dohnányi, Dutoit, Gergiev, Jansons, Levine, Mehta, Muti, Nagano, Ozawa, Temirkanov and Thielemann, as well as chamber music partners including Argerich, Bartoli, Capuçon, Golan, Kissin, Knyazev, Lang Lang, Maisky and Matsuev. Several contemporary composers — S. Gubaidulina, J. MacMillan, B. Yusupov, L. Auerbach, I. Demutsky, M. Pletnev, K. Bodrov and A. Korolev — had their works
premiered by Vadim Repin, many of them dedicated to him.

His recordings received awards such as the Echo Award, Diapason d’Or, Prix Caecilia and Edison Award, while his artistry has been recognised in France with distinctions including the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and a Victoire d’Honneur. Vadim Repin has been Artistic Director of the Trans-Siberian Art Festival since its foundation in 2013/14. He holds the title of People’s Artist of Russia.
