Biography

Violinist Arabella Steinbacher has firmly established herself as one of today’s leading violinists on the international concert scene, performing with the world’s major orchestras.

In 2014-15 season she is Principal Guest Artist at Festival Strings Lucerne and has performed, amongst many others, with the National Symphony Orchestra under Christoph Eschenbach, and NHK Symphony Orchestra under Charles Dutoit. Arabella Steinbacher will also tour with NDR Symphony Orchestra under Thomas Hengelbrock. Recent debut highlights have included her performance with the New York Philharmonic and her debut at Salzburger Festspiele.

With her diverse and deep repertoire of more than thirty concertos for violin, she appears with leading international orchestras including Boston Symphony, London Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Staatskapelle, Philharmonia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchstra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and many more. She has worked with conductors including Riccardo Chailly, Sir Colin Davis, Christoph von Dohnányi, Herbert Blomstedt, Vladimir Jurowski, Zubin Mehta, Marek Janowski, Lorin Maazel and Yannick Nezet-Seguin.

Recording exclusively for PENTATONE, her recording honors include the Choc du mois from Le Monde de la Musique, two ECHO Klassik Awards, two German Record Critics’ Awards and the Editor’s Choice Award from Gramophone magazine.

Born in Munich to a German father and Japanese mother, Arabella Steinbacher began studying the violin at the age of three. In 2001 Ms. Steinbacher won a sponsorship prize from the Free State of Bavaria and was awarded a scholarship by The Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation. Ms. Steinbacher currently plays the “Booth” Stradivari (1716) generously provided by the Nippon Music Foundation.
