Biography

Matthias Goerne is one of the most internationally sought-after singers and a frequent guest at renowned festivals and concert halls. He has collaborated with the world’s leading orchestras, conductors and pianists. Born in Weimar, he studied with Hans- Joachim Beyer in Leipzig, and with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

His artistry has been documented on many prize-winning recordings. His latest solo albums include songs by Schumann with Markus Hinterhäuser for harmonia mundi, Beethoven songs with Jan Lisiecki, and songs by Wagner and Strauss with Seong-Jin Cho for Deutsche Grammophon.

Matthias Goerne has appeared on the world’s principal opera stages, including the Teatro Real in Madrid, Liceu de Barcelona, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra national de Paris, and Metropolitan Opera New York. His roles range from Wolfram, Amfortas, Marke, Wotan, Flying Dutchman, Orest, and Jochanaan to the title roles in Bartók’s ‚Duke Bluebeard’s Castle‘ and Alban Berg’s ‚Wozzeck‘.
