Biography

Timur Zangiev studied at the Moscow State Conservatory under G. Rozhdestvensky, already having experience of appearing with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, the State Academic Chamber Orchestra of Russia, the Moscow Virtuosi and the Novaya Rossiya orchestras. He took part in the International E. Virsaladze Music Festival in Telavi and other forums. He was a fellow of the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation and a member of Conductor-Trainee Group of the The National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia. In 2015 he won the 3rd Prize at the II All-Russian Music Competition in Moscow. That very same year he was awarded the title of Honoured Artist of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.

In 2012 he began to collaborate with the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Musical Theatre. He has been nominated for the Russian National Theatre Award Golden Mask twice in categories Best Ballet Conductor and Best Opera Conductor. He has been Guest Conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre since June 2022.

Recent engagements include concerts with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia “Evgeny Svetlanov”, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, the Moscow Philhamonic Orchestra, the Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre Orchestra, and the Musica Viva Moscow Chamber Orchestra, as well as concerts for opening of the Russian National Orchestra’s (Zaryadye Hall) and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra’s (Tchaikovsky Concert Hall) seasons and a recent tour to the Ural region with MSSO. Furthermore, the conductor also collaborates with the Mariinsky Theatre’s soloists, choir and orchestra and performs at the Bolshoi Theatre. In March 2022 he made his debut at the Theatro alla Scala with Tchaikovsky’s opera The Queen of Spades. Upcoming events include a debut at the Bavarian State Opera (with Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin) and a concert with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Concertgebouw. He has been nominated for the 2023 Russian National Theatre Award Golden Mask for the production of Romeo and Juliet ballet at the Academic Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Musical Theatre.
