Aleksandr Shustin

Graduated from the Novosibirsk State Conservatory (class of Mikhail Liberman) and completed his postgraduate assistantship-intership at the Gnessin State Musical Pedagogical Institute in Moscow (classes of Nelli Shkolnikova and Grigory Zhislin).

He is a laureate of the International Violin Competition in Zagreb (Croatia).

From 1977 to 1992, he performed with the Novosibirsk Symphony Orchestra, and worked as a soloist for the Novosibirsk Philharmonic and Rosconcert, while also teaching at the Novosibirsk Conservatory.

Since 1992, Alexander Shustin has served as the Principal Concertmaster and soloist of the St.Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. In the same year, he became the first violinist and leader of the Stravinsky Quartet. He holds the title of Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation and is a Chevalier of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland".

As the concertmaster and a soloist, he regularly appears on stages globally. His international tours with the Academic Symphony Orchestra span the UK, Germany, France, Turkey, the Netherlands, Belgium, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Spain, and Taiwan. As a soloist, he has performed with the philharmonic orchestras of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and Krasnoyarsk, as well as with symphonic orchestras in Ankara, Istanbul, and Zagreb.

Throughout his career, he has collaborated with many distinguished conductors, including Evgeny Svetlanov, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Yuri Temirkanov, Arnold Katz, Vasily Sinaisky, Gennady Provatorov, Yuzo Toyama, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, Jean-Pierre Jacquillat, Ronald Trory, Michael Hoffmann, and William Nelson.

In addition to his intensive stage career, he is deeply involved in pedagogy. Since 1994, Alexander Shustin has been a Professor in the Department of Violin and Viola at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, shaping the next generations of prominent orchestral musicians.
