Biography

Alexander TITOV was born in 1954 in Leningrad. Graduated from Leningrad Conservatoire in 1976 as choir conductor (under the guiding of professor A.V.Mikhaylov) and pianist; in 1981 (under the guiding of professor Y.A.Musin). In 1988 he became the Second-Prize winner of the Min-On conducting competition in Tokio. Since 1987 he has been taught in St.Petersburg Conservatoire. In 1990 he had creative probation in Tanglwood (USA), in 1990-1994 was assistant of G.Rozhdestvensky and M.Rostropovich in some musical projects.

Alexander Titov has been guest conductor of Mariinsky Theater (since 1991) and Bolshoi Theater (since 2002). His theatre repertoire includes operas «Katerina Izmaylova» of Schostakovich, «Love for 3 oranges» and «The gambler» of Prokofiev, «The Nightingale» of Strawinsky, «La Traviata» of Verdi, ballets «Swan Lake», «Sleeping beauty» and «Nutcracker» of Tchaikovsky, «Romeo and Juliet» of Prokofiev etc. The orchestra repertoire of A.Titov includes symphony classic and vocal-oratorical compositions: «German requiem» of Brahms, «Bells» of Rachmaninov, «King Edip» of Strawinsky, 2nd symphony of Mahler, «Carmina Burana» of Orff, etc. A.Titov recorded some gramophone records and more then 40 CDs.

A.Titov has toured Japan, USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, performed with London and Scotland orchestras BBC.
