Biography

One of the most promising young cellists to emerge from Estonia.

Born in 1995. Graduated from the Trossingen University of Music (Germany); from 2018 he has been continuing his studies at the Berlin University of the Arts with Prof. Jens Peter Maintz.

He has performed as a soloist with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, Bad Reichenhaller Philharmoniker, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Latvian National SO under conductors such as Risto Joost, Olari Elts, Andres Mustonen, Jüri Alperten, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt and Arvo Volmer among others.

Marcel plays an Italian cello made by Francesco Ruggeri (Cremona, 1674), kindly on loan to him by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.

First Prizes and Special Prizes Winner at the International Johannes Brahms Competition (Austria, 2016) and the George Enescu International Competition (Romania, 2018).
