Alexander Mitenyov
Biography
Born in St. Petersburg, Alexander Mitenev begins playing music on accordion at the age of nine.
Before Alexander turned his 16 he’s already a well-known accordionist and obtains Dm. Likhachev scholarship.
In 1997 he’s accepted to St. Petersburg Academy of Art as a student of prof. Nicolay Kravtsov, a prominent musician and inventor of a unique accordion keyboard that wiped off the key and button distinction. During years of studies Alexander mastered his own way of playing chamber music for accordion. At the same time he attends master classes of J. Mornet, F. Lips, V. Semenov. He plays music in Germany, Norway, Bulgaria, Finland, Sweden, Italy.
In 2004 Alexander graduates from Academy of Art and forms “ClubTango Orquesta” in order to satisfy his great desire to play “Tango Nuevo” (“New Tango”) music. Next year ClubTango wins Gran-Prix of European Music Festival for youngsters in Belgium. Same year Alexander accidentally buys his first “Alfred and Arnold” bandoneon and tries to cope with it by himself, involving into his performances.
Later on Alexander studies at World Music Academy in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) together with maestros Victor Villena (“Gotan Project”, “El Despues”), Gustavo Beytelmann and Leo Vervelde (“Sexteto Conyengue”), plays bandoneon in OTRA Orquesta Tipica.
Since then he works closely together with tango communities, plays tango on milongas (tango dancing venues) and in concerts. He’s a guest artist of many international musical and tango festivals such as “Tango of White Nights” and “Musical Olympus” in Russia, “Sata-Hame Soi” in Finland, “Tango Fest” and “VDF” in Sweden, “Tango Argentino” in Germany.
As a soloist he appears together with Pablo Zinger, Leonardo Granados, Juan Villareal, Anna Netrebko, Erwin Schrott and other great musicians.
Alexander plays a unique “Ebony Pearl” bandoneon.
