Yajie Zhang

Biography
In 2010, Yajie Zhang started her vocal studies in Shanghai, where she became a member
of Zhou Xiaoyan Opera Center. Since 2015, the mezzo-soprano continued her studies in
Hannover. She refined her studies in master classes with world leading opera singers.
She has won scholarships of the Richard Wagner Foundation and the Lied Academy of the International Music Festival «Heidelberger Frühling». Privately, she studies with Thomas
Quasthoff.
In 2012, Yajie Zhang made her debut at Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Since, she has sung in Hamburg, at National Grand Theatre Beijing and Shanghai Symphony Hall.
Her concert repertoire includes works of Bach, Handel and Mozart, as well as songs and romances.
In 2013, she made her debut as Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto in Shanghai, followed by opera engagements in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, Ravel’s L’énfant et les Sortileges, Poulenc’s Les Mamalles de Tirésias and Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte.
In 2017, Yajie Zhang, youngest participant of the International Vocal Competition ’s-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands), was awarded Grand Prix and Special Prizes of this vocal contest.
