Biography

The Dutch-American soprano Lisa Houben began her international career with Tosca. Since then, her performances of Fidelio, Tosca, Manon Lescaut, Lady Macbeth, Aïda,... brought her to the Opera of Rome, Palermos Teatro Massimo, La Fenice in Venice, Opera of Bordeaux, Opera of Lyon, Brusselss La Monnaie, Nuremberg's Staatstheater, Viennas Volksoper, Strasburg's Opéra du Rhin, Luxemburgs Grand Théâtre, Opera of Flanders, Her wide range of repertoire also includes Verdis Giovanna dArco, Abigaïlle (Nabucco) Feldmarshallin (Rosenkavalier), Elisabetta (Don Carlo), Leonora (La forza del destino), Adriana Lecouvreur, Suor Angelica and Giorgietta (Il Trittico), Marguerite (Gounods Faust), Maddalena (Andrea Chenier), Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana), Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Contessa (Nozze di Figaro), Cherubinis Médée, as well as some splendid rarities such as Schumanns Genoveva, Kalmans Gräfin Mariza, Samuel Barbers Vanessa (French Premiere), Leoncavallos Zaza (world premiere recording), In the contemporary repertoire, she sang the world premiere of Giorgio Batistellis Richard III (Lady Ann) at the Opera of Flanders. The soprano also starred in Gerard Mortiers production Sentimenti at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam and at the Singel in Antwerp.

In the concert repertoire, Mrs Houben sang to great acclaim in prestigious international concert halls, such as Washingtons Constitution Hall, the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, Rotterdams Doelen, Hong Kong Cultural Center, She is also regularly invited at Carnegie Hall where she recently performed an Italian gala concert. Amongst others, she sang Verdis Requiem, Beethovens Ninth Symphony, Faurés Requiem and some rare scores such as Peter Benoîts De Schelde and Persianis Ines de Castro. Recently, Mrs Houben interpreted Maurice Ravels Shéhérazade conducted by Alain Lombard and Chaussons Poème de lAmour et de la Mer conducted by Michel Plasson. She also performed in Mahlers 4th Symphony at the Teatro filarmonico of Verona. Recently, she sang the title role of the world premiere of Anton Coppola's Turandot in Florida.

Her discography to date includes the world-premiere recordings of Leoncavallos Zaza and Persianis Ines de Castro for Bon Giovanni and Domenico Monlenones Cavalleria Rusticana and Il Mistero for Myto Records. She recorded a CD of rare and inedited Italian Ave Marias and, more recently, a CD of special italian romanze with pianist Daniel Blumenthal.
