Biography

Born in Moscow in 1976, Alexander Vinogradov studied Physics and Mathematic before entering Moscow State Conservatory. He made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre at the age of 21 as Oroveso in “Norma”. A winner of numerous competitions, he has sung a variety of roles at the Staatsoper Berlin, including Pimen, Mozart’s Figaro, Sarastro, Oroveso, Colline, Don Basilio, Banquo, Timur, Padre Guardiano, Escamillo, Selim.

Vinogradov’s other engagements have included The Monk and Daland at Teatro Real (Madrid), Oracle in Idomeneo, Straus’s Truffaldino, Il Conte Walther and Colline with the Opera National de Paris, Ramfis and Don Basilio in Bordeaux, Il Conte Walther in Teatro La Fenice (Venice), Figaro at the Ravinia Festival under Barenboim, Salieri in Mozart and Salieri with the Theatre du Chatelet, Colline at the Covent Garden, Leporello in Valencia under Lorin Maazel, Chelio in Love for Three Oranges in Genova, Colline in Santa Fe, Escamillo in Tokyo.

Among the concerts there were Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the Chicago Symphony and Bach-Collegium Stuttgart under Helmuth Rilling, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony under Barenboim, Lawrence Foster, Myung Wung Chung and Kent Nagano, Verdi’s Requiem with the Bayerische Rundfunk under Mariss Jansons, concerts with the Deutsche Symphony Orchestra and Kent Nagano, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Vladimir Jurowski, Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death at the Opera de Lyon.

Recent engagements include Selim in “Il Turco in Italia”, Sarastro and Don Basilio in Berlin Staatsoper, Escamillo in Moscow, Dresden, Washington and Caracas, Rossini Petite Messe Solenelle with Placido Domingo conducting in Washington, Orest in Strauss’s „Elektra“ under Kent Nagano in Singapore, Mephistopheles in “Faust” in Palma de Mallorca, Catania and Macerata Sferisterio Festival, Fidelio in Rotterdam under Gergiev, Verdi Requiem in Parma under Lorin Maazel, Shostakovich 13-th Symphony under Barenboim in Berlin, Timur in Seviglia, Shostakovich 14-th symphony and Michelangelo Sonets with RAI orchestra in Torino ,Escamillo in Arena di Verona, Figaro in Tokyo, Escamillo in Valencia with Zubin Mehta and at the Teatro alla Scala under Gustavo Dudamel.

Alexander Vinogradov’s future plans and engagements include a return to the Covent Garden in Tsar’s Bride, Sarastro and Don Basilio in Berlin Staatsoper, Frere Laurent at Teatro alla Scala, Gioconda in Palermo.

Alexander Vinogadov currently lives in Berlin, Germany, where he also teaches singing at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler.
