Theodore Kerkezos
Biography
Theodore Kerkezos has collaborated and recorded the entire repertoire for solo saxophone with orchestras including the London Symphony, London Philharmonic, The Philharmonia (of London), St. Petersburg Philharmonic, “Tchaikovsky” Moscow Radio Symphony, Zurich Symphony, Berliner Symphoniker, Boston Pops, Bucharest Philharmonic “G. Enescu”, Lithuania National Symphony, NDR Radio Philharmonie, Royal Bangkok Symphony, Athens State, Vienna Chamber, Moscow Soloists, appearing at halls such as: Carnegie Hall- New York, Royal Festival Hall and Wigmore Hall-London, Grand Hall of Moscow Conservatoire, “Tchaikovsky” Concert Hall-Moscow, “D. Shostakovich” Grand Hall of St. Petersburg Philharmonic, “Tonhalle-Zurich, Konzerthaus-Vienna, Laeiszhalle-Hamburg, Opera of Rome, Athens Megaron Concert Hall, Beijing Concert Hall and Herod Atticus Theatre (Athens-Parthenon).
Kerkezos works with Yuri Bashmet, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Michael Nyman, Yuri Simonov, Teodor Currentzis and works have been dedicated to him by the composers Mikis Theodorakis, Iannis Xenakis, Andrei Eshpai, Friedrich Cerha, etc.
Theodore Kerkezos has been awarded with the Honorary Doctor of Musical Arts from IAACC/UNESCO-Moscow for his outstanding services as performer and professor at the international music stage; in 2012 the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences & Arts and the United Nations, unanimously elected him as Honorary Member of the Academy. He was twice nominated for the USA 50th Grammy Awards in New York.
He graduated from the Athens Conservatory (Babis Farantatos’ Class) and continued in Paris with Daniel Deffayet and in Bordeaux with Jean-Marie Londeix.
In 1999 he started a fruitful collaboration with the Alphonse Leduc Editions Musicales-Paris writing musical books.
He is a visiting professor giving master classes at Universities of: Boston, Princeton, Louisiana, Vienna (MDW) at the Conservatories of: Boston, New England, Moscow State, St. Petersburg “Rimsky-Korsakov”at the Academies of: Gnesin (Moscow), Chopin (Warsaw) and Kiev.
His discography with the London Symphony, London Philharmonic, The Philharmonia, Thessaloniki State Symphony and Nuremberg Symphony has won many prestigious awards.
His debut with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic was made in 11 December of 1999.
