announces contest to the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra
Two vacancies in the 1st Violin section:
• 6th stand 12th position
• 8th stand 16th position
One vacancy in the 2nd Violin section
3rd stand 5th position
Associate Principal Double Bass
Principal Bassoon
The contest will be held 14, 15 and 21 September 2024 at the Grand Philharmonic Hall
Performing program for the contest to the 1st & 2nd Violin Section includes a compulsory work and a large-scale work by composers of the second half of the XIX or XX century (at the performers' discretion), as well as performance of excerpts from the Orchestra's repertoire.
Compulsory work (at your choice):
- Mozart. Violin concerto #3, #4 or #5 (Part I in full, with cadence)
Performing program for the contest to the Associate Principal Double Bass includes two compulsory works as well as performance of excerpts from the Orchestra’s repertoire.
The German bow manner.
First compulsory work (at your choice):
- Vanhal. Concerto in D Major (Part I in full, with cadence)
- Dittersdorf. Concerto #2 in E Major (Part I in full, with cadence)
Second compulsory work (at your choice):
- Koussevitsky. Concerto in fis-moll op. 3 (Part I in full)
- Bottesini. Concerto #2 in B minor (Part I in full)
Performing program for the contest to the Principal Bassoon includes one compulsory work and a large-scale work by composers of the second half of the XIX or XX century (at the performers' discretion), as well as performance of excerpts from the Orchestra’s repertoire.
Compulsory work:
- Mozart. Concerto in B-Flat Major (Part I & II in full)
Admission paperwork to apply for the Contest:

- Ñurriculum vitæ
- References from your place of employment or a certified copy of the work book
- Photo (document-size, not over 6x6 cm)
- Consent to personal data processing
- Audio recording of your solo performance (duration over five minutes) on any type of digital carrier
Documents are accepted from 24 June 2024 to 30 August 2024 on work days from 11 am to 5 pm (lunch break 13-14:00) by the St Petersburg Philharmonic administration located at:
St Petersburg, Mikhailovskaya St., 2, office ¹ 417 or Personnel Department office ¹ 411.
Preliminary selection results and the name-list of applicants admitted to the Contest will be published on September 6, 2024.
