Kaisa Ranta

Biography
Kaisa Ranta started her music studies by playing the piano. Her long-time second instrument was the flute. Mrs Ranta began studying classical singing with Airi Tokola as her teacher at Oulu Conservatoire in 1998. This turned into vocational study at Oulu University of Applied Sciences and Turku Music Academy (degree in Music Pedagogy in 2004). From 2005 to 2008 Kaisa Ranta studied at Sibelius Academy under the guidance of Marjut Hannula and in spring 2008 she graduated with a Master’s degree majoring in Opera Singing, after having gained excellent grades in her singing diploma. Kaisa Ranta participated in the Master's courses of Professor Eva Blahova and Professor Udo Reinemann. Mrs Ranta’s present teacher is Professor Elisabeth Werres in Berlin. Kaisa Ranta has studied Lied music under the guidance of Ilmo Ranta and Ralf Gothoni.
Kaisa Ranta is a versatile singer and, consequently, she has been offered a large variety of work on the stage, including musical theatre, musicals, operetta and opera. Her voice is at its best when she’s singing works with a colorature toning. Mrs Ranta made her opera debut as Papagena in W.A. Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Louhosareena of Nilsiä in the productions of Opera Cava in 2004 and 2005. In 2006 Kaisa Ranta made her debut at the Finnish National Opera in the main role of W.A. Mozart’s opera Zaide and after that she has been regularly visited at FNO as a guest soloist.
Kaisa Ranta has performed as a soloist with various Finnish orchestras and choirs. In spring 2008 she sang the much-praised premiere of Neito (Maiden), a commissioned composition of Uljas Pulkkis, together with YL Male Voice Choir, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and director Dimitri Slobodeniouk. Mrs Ranta has also sung solo parts in a great variety of church music works. The most significant of these works include: Pergolesi’s and Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater, G.F. Händel’s Messiah, A.Bruckner’s Requiem, J. Brahms’ A German Requiem, Lloyd Webber’s Requiem, J. Haydn’s Missa Cellensis, W.A. Mozart’s Requiem, Mass no. 4 in C minor and the motet Exultate, Jubilate, A. Salieri’s La Passione di nostro Signore Gesu Christo, L.V. Beethoven’s Mass in C major and Symphony no. 9, C. Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, J.S. Bach’s St John Passion and C. Orff’s Carmina Burana. In addition, Mrs Ranta has made recordings of J. Rutter’s Requiem and Cantus with the Händel choir and Madetoja’s choral works with Tapiola Chamber Choir. She has also recorded for YLE (The Finnish Broadcasting Company) together with pianist Ilmo Ranta.
Beside in Finland, Mrs Ranta has given concerts in the UK, the USA, the Czech Republic and Japan.
Kaisa Ranta rose to nationwide notoriety after winning the first prize in one of Finland’s most prestigious song contests, Lappeenrannan valtakunnallinen laulukilpailu, in 2006. In 2008 she was one of the semifinalist in Mirjam Helin international singing competition.
