Heribert Metzger

Organ

Biography

Heribert Metzger, born in Vienna, received his tuition in organ-playing from Prof. Alois Forer in the Musikhochschule in Vienna. As a prize winner in international competitions – in 1972 he was awarded the Bach prize in Leipzig – he gave concerts in many parts of Europe, in Canada, South Korea, and on the Arabian Peninsula and also served as a juror in national and international competitions. At the centre of his musical interest lies the organ music of J.S.Bach, to which also his dissertation at Salzburg University was directed. Since 1975 he has taught at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg; in 1988 a professorship for organ and organ improvisation was conferred to him.

Several times he was invited to teach at music academies in different countries of Europe, in Canada, and in South Korea.

In September 2005 he was appointed as organist at the Salzburg Cathedral.
